The One Goal, One Education Sports Festival 2026 brought together learners, educators and community stakeholders for an exciting and enjoyable day of sport, participation and camaraderie at West Park School, Malvern, on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
Hosted by Durban Africa Sports Club (DASC), in partnership with the George Ramalu Memorial Trust (GRMT) and Azelis, the festival promoted the importance of sport as a vehicle for education, personal development, inclusion and community upliftment.
The event provided learners with an opportunity to showcase their sporting abilities, develop teamwork, build confidence and experience the joy of participating in organised sport.
Prem Vayapuri, trustee of the George Ramalu Memorial Trust, addressed the young participants on behalf of the Trust and Azelis SA. His message emphasised the importance of gratitude towards parents, guardians and educators for their sacrifices and support, while encouraging children to give their best, respect their opponents, support their teammates and remain humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
Vayapuri also conveyed the Trust's warm greetings and best wishes, highlighting its commitment to helping young people realise their potential through education, sport and development opportunities.
The festival celebrated participation and achievement, with every participant receiving a medal.
Winning teams were rewarded with medals and sports outfits, while all participating schools and Community Youth Clubs (CYCCs) received sports equipment to support their ongoing activities.
A light breakfast and lunch were provided for players, educators and support staff, ensuring that the day was not only about competition but also about fellowship and shared experiences.
Interviews conducted by Sunshine FM added to the excitement of the occasion, capturing the enthusiasm and positive spirit of the festival.
The partnership between DASC, the George Ramalu Memorial Trust and Azelis demonstrates the value of collaboration in creating meaningful opportunities for children, particularly those who benefit from grassroots sport and community-based development programmes.
The message of the day was clear: winning is not only about medals and trophies. It is about participation, effort, discipline, respect, resilience and the willingness to learn from every experience.
“Sport teaches young people valuable lessons about discipline, teamwork, respect and perseverance. Through events like this festival, we are creating opportunities for learners to grow in confidence, discover their potential and understand that education and sport can work together to shape a brighter future,” said the Chairperson of DASC, Maggie Govender.
Through initiatives such as the One Goal, One Education Sports Festival, the organisers continue to champion the belief that sport and education must work together to help young people grow, thrive and build a brighter future.
